Before I get into the celebrity sightings, my friend and I experienced a very special celebrity sighting that was quite spontaneous: Rick Campanelli from Entertainment Tonight Canada (a.k.a. “Rick the Temp” from Much Music)! I grew up watching him on Much Music (back when that channel actually played music videos… That’s how I got into 90s alternative rock, yeah!). Rick was the nicest, sweetest guy ever as we timidly approached him to take a photo. Say Cheese! That seriously made our day and probably all of TIFF haha… I randomly saw him on King Street West on our way to Princess of Wales. So keep your eyes peeled during the two-week period! You never know who you might meet!

Ryan Gosling plays a motorcycle stunt rider who decides to commit a crime to provide for his newborn child, which I’m assuming comes with all sorts of consequences when he gets involved with Bradley Cooper – a cop turned politian. FYI – the TIFF organizers were all over the place with this premiere… I was originally standing by the walkway for an hour or so when they told our entire section that we couldn’t be there anymore and had to cross the street. You would think they would have figured out the setup from the day before or even years before. Gah! Was not impressed.
The first major sighting was with Bradley Cooper. Let me tell you… I didn’t think much of him to begin with cause he looks (and probably is) a douche. But after this TIFF experience, I have newfound respect for him and think he’s one of the coolest at this years TIFF. Bradley saw the huge crowd waiting across the street and actually stopped traffic on King Street West during rush hour to walk across. Fans slowly caught on and went onto the road to circle him for autographs and photos, which he did effortlessly. He even grabbed a few cameras and took self shots with his fans. Super cool. He was standing half a meter away from me – I didn’t move though as I was in awe this was all happening. His hair is super thick and luscious though haha. Dang.
Next up was Eva Mendes. It was quiet, I didn’t hear any fans call out her name or cheer. She didn’t wave to the crowd, sign any autographs nor take any photos with fans. Hilarious. What do you expect though when you take one of our proudly Canadian heartthrobs and bring him down to your level? Hahaa… Sorry, I really don’t like Eva Mendes – she’s all boobs and mole and screams dirty.
Ryan Gosling arrived last but a huge throng of teenyboppers went chasing after him the minute he stepped out of the car. He probably would’ve crossed the street the same way Bradley did, but you could see from the expression on his face that he was freaked and went the other direction behind the car and closer to the Step and Repeat and entrance of the venue. Boo, worst sighting ever.

Four college girls get caught robbing a fast food restaurant to fund their spring break trip, when pimpin’ James Franco bails them out and commissions them to do other work for him… *ahem*
This was one of the premieres that we sacrificed to go to “The Place Beyond the Pines” but we managed to get there right as the movie had ended. Something new I learned – its possible to catch celebrities at the end of their screenings too (although probably not at Roy Thomson Hall because I think they have a “secret” underground area where the cars pick them up).
Is it just me or do Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez look exactly alike, only Selena is like the younger, hotter version while Vanessa is the older, chubbier one? I don’t care for either of them really, but this one fan was hyperventilating after getting Selena’s autograph. Thank God The Biebs wasn’t there, or else the crowd would’ve gotten really ugly… Teen ugly.
James Franco was quite bummy looking with his backpack and hat. I overheard someone who said he changed his clothes, so not sure how he initially went to the premiere. Either way, he looked super bored and tired, hardly ever cracked a smile, but still pushed through his mood to meet his fans. I hope James bounces back from whatever spell he’s under… it’s been a series of performances while flying kites it seems, but he’s a very talented actor and hope he maintains that…

Part of the Midnight Madness selection at TIFF (where horror, fantasy and thriller movies break free and go wild), Colin Farrell’s character struggles to complete his script with a serial killer plot when he gets some first hand experience dealing with real crazies.
This premiere was absolute insanity. At first Christopher Walken appears first. Cool, calm and collected. He pretty much side passes most of the fans and goes straight for the venue entrance. But later on, when all the other actors drive up to the red carpet, Christopher returns and it’s a mad frenzy of high profile actors moving back and forth. We’re talking Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Olga Kurylenko and Colin Farrell. I had no idea where to direct my camera!
Olga was absolutely breathtaking. I forgot she was in James Bond Quantum of Solace. She was such a sweetheart and was always smiling and signing away for fans. Her dress was to die for!
I absolutely love Sam Rockwell, so this was a definite treat to see him. He was a bit reserved with his fans, but you can kinda tell he’s that type of guy.
I didn’t know what to expect with Colin Farrell. Similar to Bradley Cooper, I didn’t care too much for him cause he’s rumoured to be a major ass. But he was amazing with the fans and was unbelievably friendly and charming. Major points for him. BTW – my friend stroked his hands at one point and said they were very soft, LOL.
Overall, a very successful stalking day. Phew! And now onto Day 3.
Indulge in more TIFF festivities!
